My Journey: From Graphic Design to Cinematic Storytelling
Born: Windsor ON, CA
Location: Toronto ON, CA
I’ve always believed in the power of visuals to tell a story, to evoke emotion, and to connect with people on a deeper level. With over 15 years of experience in graphic design, I’ve had the privilege of honing my craft across various mediums, from branding and digital media to the intricate details that define a project’s identity. However, it’s in the past four years that I’ve truly found my calling—bringing my design expertise into the film industry, where my work can help shape the worlds that captivate audiences.
My journey into film wasn’t just a career shift; it was a natural evolution of my lifelong passion for storytelling through design. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to contribute to productions like Star Trek: Discovery on Paramount+, JANE on Apple TV+, and Reacher on Amazon Prime. These projects have been a canvas for me to blend creativity with precision, to create visuals that not only fit into a narrative but enhance it.
One of my most rewarding experiences has been working on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy as a Graphic Designer and 2nd Assistant Art Director. This role allowed me to dive deep into the show’s unique and surreal aesthetic. From designing graphics for inter-dimensional subway ads to creating labels for fictional products, I was able to contribute to the show’s distinct visual identity. I took pride in ensuring every detail was perfect, even physically measuring labels on Toronto’s TTC subway system to ensure they seamlessly integrated into the scenes.
My work in the film industry is driven by a belief that design is more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating experiences that resonate with people. Whether it’s collaborating with set decorators to bring 3D-printed elements to life or developing logos that become iconic within a show’s universe, I approach each project with the same level of dedication and creativity that has defined my career.
Outside of film, I continue to channel my passion into other ventures. I’m the creative mind behind The Men's Encouragement Group and Broken Wings Apparel, where I strive to build brands that connect with audiences on a personal level. These projects allow me to explore different facets of design, always with the goal of leaving a lasting impact.
Looking back, I’m proud of the path I’ve taken. My experience in graphic design has provided a strong foundation, but it’s the last four years in the film industry that have truly allowed me to bring my visions to life on a grand scale. I’m excited to continue this journey, pushing the boundaries of what design can achieve in storytelling, and contributing to the worlds that captivate and inspire us all.
